De La Soul Gives Nike More “Sole” – By Chastidee Davis

One of Hip Hop’s most influential music groups, De La Soul has partnered with Nike, the world’s leading sports brand to make a new debut record to commemorate the 20^th Anniversary of their debut album “3 Feet High and Rising”.

Formed in Long Island, De la Soul was introduced to the Hip Hop world in the late 1980’s. Known for their groundbreaking sound, consisting of dilettantish sampling, idiosyncratic lyrics, and strong jazz influences, the members of De la Soul has proven to be one of Hip Hop’s most ingenious rap groups.

“Are You In?: Nike + Original Run”, a record written specifically for runners, is the first single the group has released in five years. It will only be available through ITunes, to continue a series of music Nike releases for the “Nike + Sport Music” section of the ITunes store launched on June 29, 2006. The section was created by Nike and ITunes to enhance coaching of athletes, along with providing athletes with musical motivation.

The members of De La Soul have been reported to be very enthusiastic about collaborating with Nike to help runners accelerate their daily routines. Who better to “just do it”, than a group continuing to rise 3 Feet High?
